(FRIDAY 5TH AUGUST, 2011): WITH over ten Australian Surfing Titles and seven ASP World Titles between them, TravelSIM Team Australia will have their sights set on the gold medal when they compete at the ISA World Masters Surfing Championships in Punta Roca, El Salvador from 16th - 23rd October, 2011.
The ISA World Masters Surfing Championships will see over 20 countries and over 150 surfers competing in the Masters, Grand Masters, Kahuna and Grand Kahuna divisions.
Current ISA Masters World Champion Rod Baldwin will return to defend his title after his gold medal victory for Australia at the 2010 ISA World Masters Surfing Championships in Panama.
“I am really looking forward to not only defending my title, but also representing Australia again,” said Baldwin.
“I have never surfed in El Salvador before and this definately adds to the excitement.”
Seven times ASP World Champion Layne Beachley will be representing Australia in the women’s division for the first time.
“This is the first time that I have represented Australia in a team competition and I am looking forward to the experience,” said Beachley.
“The ISA Masters will be my first elite surfing competition since I retired from the ASP World Tour and I am already preparing to get back into the competitive environment. I have planned my physical training program and I have just spent the weekend with my surf coach Steve Forman to start focusing on the event.”
“I am always excited about the prospect of surfing a new wave and I have begun setting aside surfboards that I believe will perform well at Punta Roca,” she said.
